SHIRLEY NEAL is a Los Angeles-based journalist, author, and TV/Film producer whose works have focused on pop culture, Africa, and cultural themes. AfroCentric Style: A Celebration of Blackness & Identity in Pop Culture is the certified ghostwriter’s debut sole writing credit.
In the journalism world, Shirley has served as a contributing writer and editor for EBONY MAGAZINE, MOVIEMAKER, FORBES AFRICA, and guest editor of the special twenty-five-page magazine supplement for DISCOP AFRICA MAGAZINE, celebrating African Americans in Television. Her cover story for FORBES AFRICA WOMAN, highlighting Oprah Winfrey’s works in South Africa, is among the franchise’s most in-demand issues.
The Emmy-award-winning producer and documentarian has garnered two NAACP Image Award nominations and has written and produced more than 100 TV programs for NBC, CBS, TVLand, A&E, BET, The Travel Channel, and TV One, including 60 Minutes, Living With Soul, The DL Exposed, Prince: Behind the Symbol, Biography, Tuskegee Airmen, Black Ladies of Song, A Laugh, A Tear, U.S. Olympic Fest, The Other Side of Victory, and TVLand: African Americans in Television.
Shirley's film credits include Intore (pronounced "In Nor Ay"), a feature-length documentary about how Rwanda survived its tragic past by regaining its identity through music, dance, and the resilience of a new generation. The film earned top honors at the International Film Awards and was a Humanitarian Award recipient at the 2016 International Family Film Festival.
2016 Shirley also co-hosted African Ancestry Radio, a seasonal series on Sirius XM.
The Boston University graduate with a B.A. in Liberal Studies earned her professional certification as a literary ghostwriter from California State University Long Beach.
